How do schools motivate youth?
Do you want to know what middle and high schools do to keep their students motivated?
The staff hires youth motivational speakers to inspire their students. A speaker gets in front of a school assembly and gives a special message and shares stories that move students to action. Schools bring in speakers about once every semester, sometimes many times depending on the school budget.
Where to find youth speakers?
Event planners can visit a speakers bureau online and look through a directory of youth motivational speakers that they can hire. Some speakers are celebrities or used to be famous athletes. These speakers however can charge thousands for a single keynote message. If you are going to spend thousands to bring in a keynote speaker, it’s better to go through a bureau.
If you do a search online for youth speakers you will find self-promoters that you can personally contact. Some will even put their own phone numbers and personal email. Self promoting speakers are the easiest to hire because they are wanting to fill up their calendars and they often give schools a break if they can speak to several schools within a given time frame.
How much does it cost to hire a youth speaker?
First you must know that it’s hard to put a price on getting a room full of students excited about higher education and staying away from gangs and drugs and anything else that can be detrimental to their well-being.
Youth speakers charge anywhere from $500-$5,000 depending on the venue. Some of the smaller schools that do not have as much of a budget as other schools can relay that message to speakers and the true speaker that cares about students, will honor it. Do not turn away the speaker that doesn’t charge too much thinking that he will not be able to do a good job because most are ready and will bring everything that got and give it to your students. Most will even spend the whole day at your school talking to youth and hanging out with them to show them that they are not there just to receive a paycheck but they are there to connect with students.
The next time you hire a youth motivational speaker, be sure to visit their own website and find out what others are saying about them. If they have testimonials, read through them and see if their past clients gave them positive reviews. If their webpage does not have videos, pictures or any media, contact the speaker and ask for their bio sheet. Good luck on hiring a youth speaker at your next school assembly.

I have lived a very harrsh past and lead myself down the same path once I was older I have 3 childern, two I currently have and am raising alone! my daughter mickaylynn is tweleve and I havent seen her since she was 3 yrs old! her father is doing 20 yrs in prison from wrong choices msde in his addiction. my other two childrern their father took his own life,last year due to his addiction!!I have had a long struggle w drugs and abuse and would love to become a speaker to help youth to know just where that life can take u!!!1

How do you become a self-promoter speaker? I want to be a motivational speaker on bullying but do not know where to begin.
you can start by attending a local Toastmasters club in your area. they will give you confidence and speaking skills to help you get your presentation started.
watch lots of youtube speakers and tutorials also. a great book which i can’t remember title but has been compiled by TED talks how to talk ted…or something similar.

Toastmasters is a great resource. I too advise everyone to watch other speakers on youtube and TedTalks. Also watch comedians as they have a great way of working their audience. Thanks for sharing Elenor!

Wow, what a story you have to tell Michelle! I would certainly write a solid 45 minute speech around the wrong choices and the consequences that came from those choices. Then I would look for ways to explain what you learned and how your story can help other teens know how to make the right choices in life.
